Digital Trust in a New Risk Landscape: Why Identity and Fraud Must Catch Up

Digital trust is being tested in new ways as organisations face more complex interactions across customer, employee and partner journeys, rising fraud pressure, and growing reliance on automated decisioning. Yet most identity, fraud and risk models were built for a simpler world: one human user, one session, one decision point.

That is no longer enough. Organisations need a better way to establish trust, enforce accountability and apply control across the full lifecycle of digital interactions. Identity, fraud and risk teams must work more closely to verify who or what is acting, define authority more clearly, monitor behaviour continuously and govern access and decisioning in a more adaptive way.

This roundtable will explore what that new control model needs to look like in practice. From governance and auditability to fraud prevention, resilience and customer trust, the discussion will focus on how organisations can strengthen digital trust foundations for a world increasingly shaped by AI, automation and non-human actors — without adding unnecessary friction or exposing the business to new forms of risk.

Panel Questions:

  1. Where is fraud creating the biggest friction for your business today?
As fraud threats become more sophisticated, organisations are under pressure to strengthen controls while maintaining seamless digital experiences. Where are you seeing the greatest tension between protecting the business and meeting customer or employee expectations?
  2. How can identity help remove friction without weakening security?
Identity is increasingly becoming the foundation for digital trust, but many organisations still rely on fragmented approaches across channels and user types. How can identity be used to simplify interactions while strengthening fraud prevention and accountability?
  3. What role should AI and automation play in improving trust decisions?
AI and automation have the potential to enhance fraud detection and streamline decision-making, but they also introduce new risks and attack surfaces. How should organisations leverage these technologies responsibly?
  4. How do we build a digital trust strategy that supports growth, not just risk management?
Digital trust is increasingly becoming a competitive differentiator rather than simply a security requirement. What capabilities, partnerships and operating models will help organisations reduce risk while enabling growth and delivering better digital experiences?

AI: The New Face of Fraud?

As digital ecosystems evolve, the rapid proliferation of artificial intelligence has introduced a sophisticated new era of cyber threats, fundamentally altering the landscape of enterprise security. This presentation, delivered by Abdullah Masud of Ping Identity, explores the “expensive reality” of modern online fraud.

Central to the discussion is the critical “balancing act” enterprises face: delivering the seamless, low-friction experiences customers demand while implementing the robust, continuous risk-aware access controls necessary to mitigate high fraud risks.

Attendees will gain insights into:

  • The Identity Fraud Journey: Identifying vulnerabilities at every stage, from registration and login to transactions and profile management.
  • The Identity Fabric Approach: Utilising a unified platform to integrate diverse risk signals, into a cohesive defense strategy.
  • Trust-by-Design Solutions: How leveraging IAM (Identity and Access Management) and AI-driven identity protection can result in measurable outcomes.
